Self-Appraisal
April 19, 2007
“Well trained in all positions of Patient Business Services (PBS) at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP).” This statement is my “Goals For Next Year” in 90 days Job Performance Review on July 14, 2006.
Since I took Medical Terminology at MPC in Spring 2006, I have been excited to utilize my knowledge when I am registering patients at the hospital. While I was working both am and pm shift including weekends, I learned a lot of different tasks on different positions of PBS area, including outpatient registrations in the Arcade, Reception Desk, Cashier, Carrier Lab, and Pre-registration Outpatient Desk and Family Birth Center. Also, I obtained the core principles that identify patients’ needs for the hospital and how registrars perform appropriately. These principles lead me to perform high quality services, including greet patients with a warm hospitality and accomplishing accurate registrations in a timely manner.
Right after the evaluation, I was trained for a new full time position that scheduled seven days of Census and three days of Emergency Department per pay period. It was a great opportunity to learn about inpatient registration and accomplish my goals of being “well trained in all positions of PBS” since I was already fully trained and have been confidently registering outpatients. Learning and exploring new area is one of my favorite parts of PBS and contributes to my outstanding achievements. I was fully trained and handled multi-tasks in the busy environment on Admission Services, Census as well as the Emergency Department. Consequently, I became one of the staff who can handle both inpatient and outpatient registration because I understand the entire diverse working environments at the hospital. Hence, I enjoy learning new things every day in different cases and recent changes, sharing my acquired knowledge with co-workers, and accomplishing good teamwork in our department.
For my contributions to the department, I always do my best to be a good example by performing people values with well-rounded communication skills. I treat people with pleasure, the way I like to be treated, not only our patients, but also the staff in our hospital. As a result, I received kudos from patients’ family members as well as from hospital staff in other departments. one of the kudos came from RN and UR in Garden North. They both stated in kudos: “Thank you for being very efficient when patients are admitted to floor by always getting their consents signed!” Gratefully, by respecting people’s value, I helped to build up our vital relationships between PBS and other departments, delightfully working together as a team.
April 24, 2006 was my first day of working at CHOMP, and one-year anniversary is right around the corner. I am proud that all my hard work and enthusiastic learning progress in new areas have helped me become a dedicated staff member in PBS CHOMP. Furthermore, I would like to set my goal for next year, to learn details in various insurance coverage and benefits so that I can work and/or assist in both Surgery Registration and the Financial Counselor when our department needs to. Also, I ensure that I will continue to work hard and meet the further changing needs of our hospital, reflecting Community Hospital Goals: “Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles, People Values—A place where patients come first: providing the right information to the right people, in the right place, and at the right time.”
Lastly, I would like to thank CHOMP for giving me the opportunity to contribute my warm-hearted dedication here at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
