Dear everyone,

A little more than a month ago, a tidal wave created by the largest earthquake in four decades roared through communities along the coast of the Indian Ocean killing hundreds of thousands of people and ripping the lives apart of millions of families.

In the hours and days that followed, as the world watched the devastation unfold, national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies contributed their unique expertise to the emergency response. The American Red Cross, as a partner in the worldwide Red Cross Movement, began providing much-needed relief supplies, disaster relief experts and financial assistance. And, in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, continues to provide aid to southern Asia and eastern Africa by bringing lifesaving resources to tsunami survivors.

The American Red Cross, as part of the worldwide Red Cross movement, has witnessed one of the greatest demonstrations of compassion and support in its 124-year history,?said Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross. we are honored and inspired that so many Americans have confidence in the American Red Cross to turn their care and compassion into action. The generous outpouring of support has enabled us to provide immediate lifesaving aid as well as prepare to provide longer-term assistance to help rebuild families and communities."

Last week, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies announced that the $1.2 billion raised worldwide in the 30 days following the tsunami was sufficient to meet the costs of the entire Red Cross tsunami relief program projected at this time.?

Following the lead of the Federation, the American Red Cross believes that, with current contributions and pledges, it has enough money to provide immediate and longer-term lifesaving services to the survivors of the tsunami. Should the American Red Cross need additional resources to support the long-term relief efforts, we have no doubt the generous American public will step up and meet the need.

Around the globe, across the country, in your community ? the Red Cross is there. It's because of the generosity of friends like you, that the American Red Cross can keep its commitment to be there for victims whenever and wherever disasters strike. Thank you.

American Red Cross
Together, we can save a life
