2. Act 4 - Summarize each scene

 

4.1

Queen Elizabeth, the Duchess of York, and Marquess of Dorset meet Anne Duchess of Gloucester, Lady Margaret Pantagenet, and Clarence’s young daughter at the door of Tower of London. They want to see Prince of Wales, Edward and Duke of York but Brakenbury, Lieutenant of the Tower stops them due to King Richard’s order. Stanley, Earl of Derby, tells Anne to go Richard’s coronation but Anne shows her regret marrying Richard since she was still awaked by Richard’s timorous dreams. Duchess of York tells Dorset to go to Richmond away from danger.

 

4.2

King Richard enters with Buckingham, Catesby, Ratcliffe, Lovel, a Page, and others. Richard feels that he in not safe to keep his throne because “true noble prince” is still alive. Richard tells Buckingham to kill them but Buckingham asks him that he needs time to think about it. Richard is angry and aska Page to find Tyrrel who is willing to accept his order. Stanley, Earl of Debby comes and tells Richard that the Marquess Dorset flees to Richmond. Richard orders Catesby to spread rumor that Anne is very sick and about to die and also orders Tyrrel to kill princes. Buckingham asks Richard about the reward which Richard promised him for the earldom earlier but Richard ignores his request. Thus, Buckingham feels contempt from Richard because he helped Richard to be a king.

 

4.3

Tyrrel regrets deeply he killed the princes. Tyrrel tells Richard that the chaplain of the Tower buried them but he does not know where. Since Anne has died, Richard plans to woo young Elizabeth, his brother’s daughter who the Breton Richmond aims to. Ratcliffe tells Richard bad news that Morton is fled to Richmond so as Buckingham. Richard is shock and decides to ready to fight against traitors.

 

4.4

Queen Margaret sees prosperity drops into the rotten death and hopes France will prove the consequence. Queen Elizabeth and Duchess of York lament the prices’ death and mention the names that are killed by Richard. Queen Margaret curses against York’s family exposing her bitterness from the death of her husband, Henry VI and her son, Prince Edward. When Queen Elizabeth and Duchess of York ask Queen Margaret how to cause, Margaret tells them “Thy woes will make them sharp and pierce like mine.” When King Richard shows, Duchess of York starts curse at him so as Queen Elizabeth. Richard does not pay attention to his mother, Duchess of York’s curse, but asks Queen Elisabeth that he wants to marry her daughter. Even though Queen Elisabeth is telling him that how dare you asking me like that, yet Richard win the battle from his persuasive words and weakness of Queen’s hopeless life. Yet, Richard hears all bad news from Ratcliffe, Catesby, and messengers that Richmond’s army came up closer.

Lord Stanley Earl of Derby gives his letter Sir Christopher to Richmond that he should espouse Elizabeth her daughter.
