[콘서트]‘록짱’ 온다…美 록밴드 ‘인큐버스’ 공연

미국의 인기 록밴드 ‘인큐버스(Incubus·악몽)’가 첫 내한 공연을 갖는다.

 

이들은 1997년 첫 음반에서 하드코어(록+랩) 사운드로 출발했다가 최근 힙합이 가미된 모던록 사운드를 구사하는 밴드. 펑크(Funk) 힙합 메탈 스크래치 등 다양한 장르의 교배를 통해 퓨전록 사운드를 구사하고 있다. 특히 라이브 공연에서도 조명이나 무대장치의 현란함을 자제하고 사운드만으로 다가서는 ‘밴드 중의 밴드’로 불리고 있다.

 

내한 공연은 이달 초 미국에서 발표한 4집 ‘어 크로 레프트 오브 더 머더(A Crow Left of The Murder)’를 계기로 마련됐다. 이 음반에서 첫 싱글로 발표된 ‘메걸로매니액(Megalomanic·과대망상증 환자)’은 빌보드 모던록 차트 톱 10에 진입할 만큼 성과를 거두고 있다. 이 곡의 뮤직비디오에서 히틀러 등 전쟁광들을 나열하는 대목에 조지 W 부시 미국 대통령을 슬쩍 끼워 넣어 자신의 정치적 메시지를 전하고 있다.

 

 

록 평론가 한장식씨는 “새 음반의 특징은 세련미와 중량감을 갖춘 가운데 직선으로 뻗는 사운드와 가사”라고 평했다.

 

‘인큐버스’는 한국 록 마니아들의 지지를 얻고 있는 추세다. 국내에 나온 음반들은 평균 1만여 장씩 나갔다. 보컬이자 리더인 브랜든 보이드가 ‘록 얼짱’으로 꼽히는 외모를 지니고 있어 여성 팬들의 관심이 적지 않다. 3월10일 오후 7시반 서울 올림픽공원 올림픽홀. 6만5000원. 1588-1555
