The Los Angeles Art Show
January 19-23, 2011
Los Angeles Convention Center
West Hall A

WHAT: The Los Angeles Art Show (LAAS), the premier and most significant art fair in the Western United States will return to the L.A. Convention Center from January 19-23, 2011.
The LAAS features thousands of works of art from around the world and from a range of periods including Old Master works, Impressionist, Modern, and Contemporary art. This upcoming 2011 show will also feature a unique interactive exhibition and display related to the highly anticipated regional exhibition PACIFIC STANDARD TIME created by the renowned Getty Foundation to promote the positioning of Los Angeles within the context of the art history of the world. The 150,000 square foot venue which will be the home of LAAS 2011 will also include an important Guest Country Exhibition, special exhibition spaces showcasing Southern California top museums and a high profile lecture program,

LAAS is a driving force for the City’s Arts Month—each January. Sponsored by the City of Los Angeles as well as the Department of Cultural Affairs, Arts Month is scheduled to coincide with the prestigious LA Art Show.

According to the resolution passed in August of 2008, “The Los Angeles Art Show, brings thousands of works from domestic & international galleries and a number of world class museums to Los Angeles. The City will use the confluence of over 50,000 visitors to anchor a month-long celebration of arts in the City. WHEREAS, Los Angeles Arts Month is an opportunity for the Los Angeles art community to synergize the Los Angeles Art Show with the City's artists and art institutions to create a cultural Mecca ...”

WHO: The January 2010 Show welcomed more than 40,000 ticket-holders during the 5-day show.
The Los Angeles Art Show Vernissage Benefit Gala is considered a must-attend event among celebrities, political dignitaries and high-profile arts patrons and collectors and featured a special performance of the critically acclaimed Soundsuit Invasions by Chicago artist Nick Cave. Funds raised through the event benefitted Inner City Arts, Los Angeles County Museum (LACMA) Art Museum Council and the Prints and Drawing Council of LACMA.

2010 attendees included actors Rachel Griffiths, Robert LaSardo and Michael York and art patrons Eli Broad, Gayle Roski, Andrea Fiuczynski, President of Christie’s Los Angeles. Among the local and International dignitaries were Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs Director, Olga Garay, Councilman Tom La Bonge; Wolfgang Drautz, Consul General of Germany, Hakam Teken, Consul General of Turkey; Fernando Brun, Consul General of Argentina, Enrique E. Loedel, Gustavo Tabares, Coordinator of the Visual Arts Program at the Direccion Nacional de Cultura, Uruguayn artist Raquel Bessio, as well as the former Ambassador to Uruguay, Frank Baxter; legendary street artists Kofie, Mear one, Retna and El Mac were also in attendance.

WHY: Come to the LAAS to see the world.
The LAAS was created to help to position Los Angeles as a world-class art destination. The success of LAAS 2010 reinforces that this is being achieved. The fair is now positioned as an international destination for the art-buying public and its popularity reconfirms the ambitions and commitment of LA’s homegrown collectors.

The show has spawned numerous off-site events, gallery openings and parties to engage attendees and grow the festive atmosphere surrounding Arts Month each year in Los Angeles.

Additionally, given the inclusion of numerous international galleries, LAAS 2011 will be a showcase for art market trends in Asia, Latin and South America and will also include art works from international cities involved with the Los Angeles Sister Cities program. This program creates and strengthens relationships between Los Angeles and her 24 sister cities around the world. With a mission to promote peace and understanding, from people to people, the Sister Cities will curate a special exhibition of works from 24 international artists exclusively for the 2011 Los Angeles Art Show.
