The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA) & Korean Artists Association of Southern California (KAASC) proudly present the '56th Annual Exhibition of Korean Artists Association of Southern California', opening with a reception on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the KCCLA Art Gallery (5505 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036).

 

This year’s exhibition, held under the theme “Unity in Diversity,” celebrates the KAASC’s long-standing dedication to fostering artistic dialogue and cross-cultural connection. Seventy association artists will present a dynamic range of works-including painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and mixed media-demonstrating the diversity of creative expression within the Korean American artistic community.

 

Founded in 1964, the Korean Artists Association of Southern California has played a vital role in promoting cultural exchange and harmony between Korea and other ethnic communities. Through initiatives such as juried student exhibitions and Korean-American collaborative shows, the association has actively encouraged the next generation of artists. Over the years, the inclusion of younger artists has brought renewed energy and innovation to the group, blending fresh perspectives with traditional forms.

 

The exhibition is free and open to the public and will remain on view through June 6, 2025.

The Blue Sea of Abyss

 

LA한국문화원(원장 이해돈)은 남가주한인미술가협회(회장 전윤선)와 공동으로 5.22(목)부터 2주간 문화원 아트갤러리에서 "제56회 남가주한인미술가협회 정기 전시회" (The 56th Annual Exhibition of Korean Artists Association of Southern California) 를 개최한다고 밝혔다. 이번 전시는 ‘Unity in Diversity(다양성 속의 일치)’를 주제로, 회화, 설치미술, 3D 조형 작품 등 다양한 장르에서 활동 중인 총 70명의 협회 소속 작가들의 작품을 선보이며, 남가주 한인 예술가들의 창의성과 정체성이 녹아든 다양한 미술작품을 감상할 수 있다.

 

남가주한인미술가협회는 1964년, 어려운 여건 속에서도 미술 교육과 예술 진흥을 위해 창립된 이래, 60여년의 역사를 자랑하는 대표적인 미주 한인 예술 단체이다. 협회는 정기 전시 외에도 타 커뮤니티와의 교류 전시, 대학생 공모전을 통한 신진 작가 발굴 등 다양한 활동을 통해 한인 예술가들의 창작을 적극 지원해 왔다. 이번 전시에서는 원로, 중견, 신진 작가 등 총 70명이 참여하여 세대와 장르를 아우르는 폭넓은 작품 세계를 선보인다. 이해돈 문화원장은 “60년이 넘는 전통을 지닌 남가주한인미술가협회의 이번 정기전은, 그동안 협회가 이룩해 온 예술적 성과와 발전을 조망할 수 있는 뜻깊은 자리로 다양한 세대와 배경을 지닌 작가들이 한자리에 모인 이번 전시가 한인 이민 사회의 예술적 깊이와 가능성을 널리 알리는 계기가 되기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

 

전윤선 남가주한인미술가협회장은 “서로 다른 재료와 시선, 경험이 어우러져 하나의 조화를 이루는 이번 전시는, 한국적 정체성과 미국 다문화 사회의 접점에서 새로운 예술 언어를 창조해가는 작가들의 열정과 실험정신을 보여준다. 70명의 작가들이 함께 쌓아올린 이 전시가 이민 예술가로서의 자긍심과 연대의 의미를 되새기고, 예술의 새로운 가능성을 여는 소중한 시간이 되기를 바란다. 미주 한인 동포 여러분의 따뜻한 관심과 성원을 부탁드린다”라고 강조했다. 「제56회 남가주한인미술가협회 정기전」은 5.22(목) 오후 6시에 LA한국문화원 2층 아트 갤러리에서 개막식을 시작으로 6.6(금)까지 개최된다.
