Tuality Healthcare is a hospital-based, not-for-profit, independent, community-governed healthcare system serving a suburban area just west of Portland, Oregon. Since 1918, when the former Jones Hospital was founded in Hillsboro, Tuality has been building a reputation for providing quality, personal and convenient care for local residents.

The cornerstones of Tuality's state-of-the-art acute-care services are the 167-bed Tuality Community Hospital (Hillsboro) and the 48-bed Tuality Forest Grove Hospital. In addition, Tuality provides a complete array of outpatient, specialty, health education and other services.

Tuality offers big-city services in a small-town atmosphere. Through its two hospitals and various medical plazas and outpatient facilities, Tuality serves a population of about 250,000 in western Washington County and beyond—from Aloha westward through the high-tech "silicon forest," and on to the Tualatin Valley cities of Hillsboro, Forest Grove and surrounding communities, as well as into the towns of the Coastal Range foothills.

Many of Tuality’s 300-member medical staff are also providers in the Tuality Health Alliance, a physician-hospital-community partnership that links members of local insurance plans to the full range of services represented by Tuality and its professional staff.

In a way, this community is Tuality’s patient. As western Washington County’s "primary care provider," our goal isn’t only to treat the community when it is sick, but also to help it stay well. There are myriad ways that Tuality commits to this proactive care approach, such as conducting health screenings at local events, offering health education programs, and providing transport for people getting to and from medical appointments.

Tuality is able to offer many of these services at the Tuality Health Education Center and other locations through funding provided by the Tuality Healthcare Foundation, which is supported by donations from community businesses and individuals. With this assistance, many programs are offered free or at nominal cost to the public. These contributions also provide other health-related activities, such as support groups, scholarships for health careers, and even the Tuality Health Information Resource Center, a free community library on health issues.

Tuality also partners with local healthcare organizations and agencies that extend healthcare services to at-risk groups in the community. For example, teaming up with local charities to give new mothers and babies a healthy start, and helping agricultural workers and their families get preventive, quality medical services.

Tuality is a major employer in the community, with a workforce of more than 1,200. Perhaps more importantly, its prominence as a leading employer is reflected in its recent presence on Oregon Business magazine’s list of 100 best companies to work for in Oregon for six consecutive years.

History Highlights

This brochure spotlights many of Tuality's historic milestones in a timeline dating back to 1918.

On a ‘Mission’ for
Western Washington County

The mission of Tuality Healthcare was developed to ensure that our expanding system of hospitals, clinics, and physician practices continues to meet the healthcare needs of the rapidly changing western Washington County region.

Drafted by a team of administrators, physicians, and civic-minded volunteers, the final result succinctly expresses Tuality’s commitment to local residents.

The Mission of Tuality Healthcare

To provide health care to the community with respect for human dignity and without regard for the recipient’s ability to pay. We believe that compassion encourages healing, that knowledge is the foundation of wellness, and that attention to quality and fiscal stability will enable us to continue service to the community.

The Values that Define Our Mission

Quality:

We believe that quality means meeting our customers' needs every time, recognizing that customers include patients, their families, the community, physicians, and fellow employees. Above all, we value the quality of patients' outcomes and their continued satisfaction.

Compassion:

We will care for our patients, their families, and each other with understanding, concern and helpfulness because we respect the rights and dignity of all individuals.

Integrity:

We will follow through on promises, deal honestly and consistently with patients and each other, behave in a professional manner, and encourage open communication so that we maintain credibility and respectability.

Customer Satisfaction:

We will demonstrate quality, compassion, integrity, and commitment to our patients, physicians, and the community. We will measure their satisfaction through patient surveys, compliment and complaint files, and through community recognition.

Committment:

We will help patients achieve their best state of health. We will offer our staff a positive and enriching work experience, support and assist each other, and reward excellence in staff members. We will respond to changes in the community by designing and offering needed programs and services.

Fiscal Responsibility:

We have been entrusted by our community to conserve resources by maintaining well-managed, efficient facilities and return those resources in the form of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare services for all members of the community.

"A Culture of Service" and
"Standards for Success"

Two documents, "A Culture of Service" and "Standards for Success," describe Tuality Healthcare's commitment to service, both inside and outside our facility walls.  Together, they are an extension of Tuality's mission and values.  They describe key characteristics of Tuality's workplace and community interactions, based on the six core values described above, and they outline employee practices and behaviors that support Tuality's culture.

Empowered by Partnerships

Tuality Healthcare embraces this community, not just by providing
state-of-the-art healthcare, but also
by participating in many community activities, services and events that provide everything from care for new babies and mothers to food and entertainment for the entire family.
