MOTHER TERESA
From the moment a soul has the grace to know God, she must seek.
* on Prayer
Prayer is in all things, in all gestures.
Why are you sleeping?
Wake up, and pray...
Silence of our eyes.
Silence of our ears.
Silence of our mouths.
Silence of our minds.
... in the silence of the heart
God will speak.
* on Love
Love each other as God loves each one of you, with an intense and particular love.
Be kind to each other: It is better to commit faults with gentleness than to work miracles with unkindness.
* on Giving
Give of your hands to serve and your hearts to love.
* on Being Holy
Our mission is to convey God's love -- mot a dead God but a living God, a god of love.
* on Work & Service
I believe that if God finds a person more useless than me, He will do even greater things through her because this work is His.
* on Jesus
Jesus is the truth that must be shared.
Hungry for love, He looks at you.
Thirsty for kindness, He begs from you.
Naked for loyalty, He hopes in you.
Sick and imprisoned for friendship, He wants from you.
Homeless for shelter in your heart, He asks of you.
Will you be that one to Him?
* on Poverty & the Poor
God has not created poverty; it is we who have created it. Before God, all of us are poor.
* on Forgiveness
Every human being comes from the band of God, and we all know something of God's love for us. Whatever our religion, we know that if we really want to love, we must first learn to forgive before anything else.
Reconciliation begins with ourselves. It begins with a pure heart, a heart that is able to see God in others.
Someone could ask, "Who are the poorest of the poor?" They are the unwanted, the unloved, the uncared for, the hungry, the forgotten, the naked, the homeless, the lepers, the alcoholics. But also we Missionaries of Charity are the poorest of the poor. To be able to work, to be able to see, to be able to love, we need this Eucharistic union.
* on Children & the Family
I will take any child, any time, night or day. Just let me know and I will come for him.
Right from the beginning, since love begins at home, I think we should teach our children to love one another at home. I think this will strengthen our children, so that they can give that love to others in the future.
We are here to be witnesses of love and to celebrate life, because life has been created in the image of God. Life is to love and to be loved. That is why we all have to take a strong stand so that no child, boy or girl, will be rejected or unloved. Every child is a sigh of God's love, that has to be extended over all the earth.
A child is the greatest of God's gifts to a family, because it is the fruit of the parents' love.
If you want a happy family, if you want a holy family, give your hearts to love.
* on Suffering & Death
The prize with which God rewards our self-abandonment is Himself.
* on the Missionaries of Charity
What is required of a Missionary of Charity is this: health of mind and body, ability to learn, a good dose of good sense, and a joyous character.
God loves me. I'm not here just to fill a place, just to be a number. He has chosen me for a purpose. I know it.
-------------------------------------
Love has a hem to her garment
That reaches the very dust.
It sweeps the stains
From the streets and lanes,
And because it can, it must.
-------------------------------------
You who suffer, grant that, today and every day, I may be able to see you in the person of your sick ones and that, by offering them my care, I may serve you.
Grant that, even if you are hidden under the unattractive disguise of anger, of crime, or of madness, I may recognize you and say, "Jesus, you who suffer, how sweet it is to serve you".
Give me, Lord, this vision of faith, and my work will never be monotonous, I will find joy in harboring the small shims and desires of all the poor who suffer.
Dear sick one, you are still more beloved to me because you represent Christ. What a privilege I am granted in being able to take care of you!
O God, since your are Jesus who suffers, deign to be for me also a Jesus who is patient, indulgent with my faults, who looks only at my intentions, which are to love you and to serve you in the person of each of these children of yours who suffer.
Lord, increase my faith. Bless my efforts and my work, now and forever.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Come with me into a world of poverty,
Into a land where men are dying endlessly,
Into a world of inhumanity.
Can't you see they're starving, where's your charity?
They laugh and cry, they're people just like you and me,
They need help and not just sympathy.
Show each one something beautiful for God above.
Something beautiful to show your love,
Something beautiful for God above,
Something beautiful to show your love.
A day goes by, the night is long for everyone.
A child is crying, perhaps he'll live to see the sun,
And yet he knows the morning may not come.
Throughout the world our brothers live in poverty,
They're everywhere, if only we have dyes to see,
So look around and find your sanity.
Show to men the love that He has shown to you,
And feed His lambs as He has fed each one of you,
He loves them as much as He loves you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What we need is to love without getting tired. How does a lamp burn? Through the continuous input of small drops of oil. What are these drops of oil in our lamps? They are the small things of kindness, a thought for others, our way of being silent, of looking, of speaking, and of acting. Do not look for Jesus away from yourselves. He is not out there; He is in you. Keep your lamp burning, and you will recognize Him.
