Artworks by Kim McCarty (water color)
Gallery C is featuring “LA Woman” curates by Nancy Silverman-Miles. The exhibit hall is designed for 5 artists in 3 different spaces in remodeled beautiful historical building. When you come in the main entrance, you eyes are captured by a sculpture, wide spreading out 9-pieces Glass and Acrylic connected with different length of chains, hanging on the white spacious square wall and laying down both edges on the floor. Yet, you want to go on to your right hand side naturally where your instinct sense the strong bright lighting from the top.
The lightings are directing to the glass framed artworks hanging from the top of the opaque glass wall. Your eyes are quite reacted from the artworks by the lights bouncing, but at the same time, your eyes are relieved from the opaque glass walls, which are vertically placed several parallel rectangles, by the lights absorbing. The bright water color figure artworks are vivid with direct spot lights, and the alternative light reflections in between the glass frames and the opaque glass walls enhance the livelier mood. When you turn to the right, the lights are a little dimmed down and the spot lights make you focusing to the 3D sculptures on the dome feeling white movable wall and the carving wall in behind. You want to observe the eye level objects closer in the isolate area with your curiosity as if you were left alone in the ancient tomb.
When you are following the round wall through elaborate sculptures, you are entering automatically a huge high ceiling space. The fluorescent lighting makes you wondering drastically as if you were traveling into the endless universe and leading you to see the different art world in cold atmosphere. The display in this exhibit hall is spacious in between the big paintings and the 3D installation pieces attached on the wall. The 2 movable rectangular walls on both sides from far distance are implying through the deep inside of the artworks and make you to imagine the artworks more extended beyond the space.
Over all, this exhibit is designed well in several characteristic ways. The historical style architecture of gallery floor plan with placing the various movable walls creates a spatial journey, and the different value of lighting methods with individual directions to the objects produce a dynamic adventure with precious inner pleasure.
